Abrasive Water Jet (AWJ) technology has emerged as an attractive manufacturing process for the aerospace, aircraft, boat and automotive industries due to its specific advantages in machining composite materials. However, AWJ cutting of composite laminates presents some challenges. There is a need to develop a methodology to adapt the process parameters for each type of FRP and CFRP material in order to perform AWJ cutting and piercing operations on composites without any problems, since machine manufacturers still do not provide good databases for composite cutting.
